Why is America so obsessed of the royal wedding/family?

I have noticed that the tabloids are all over the royal family. I would like to know why us Americans generated so much interest. Is it because a lot of Caucasian Americans have ancestors in England? Maybe the Royal Family did something good for the USA? Does anyone know why?
