Is it impossible to become famous?

I know now that I can't find details about how other people became famous, but if that's the case do big corporations only let rich people or kids who grew up in rich families get rich only? Not ordinary people in our day and age? I've read about some celebrity's and how for example: Paris Hilton, Lady Gaga, etc all went to private schools grew up in a nice place, etc seem to get into the tabloids/news, but does that exclude the rest of us?
