Religion of fear vs more evolved religions?

Christianity tries to, but Christians keep on trying to go back to Egypt. Ever notice how similar Catholicism and Judaism are in respect to guilt, laws, religious vestments, etc. Man's very nature is to rule by fear. Jesus said perfect love casts out all fear. The New Testament says that letter (law) kills, but the Spirit brings life. Albeit, man keeps going back to legalism and judgment instead of mercy and grace. Why is that? I think at heart, all mankind is Jewish.
